For my presentation assignment on Spina Bifida, I gained a deeper understanding of this complex medical condition. Through my research, I was able to learn about the various causes, symptoms, and treatment options for Spina Bifida, which has significantly broadened my knowledge on this important and multifaceted topic. For example I learned that Spina Bifida is a neural tube defect that occurs during the early stages of pregnancy when the spinal cord and the bones of the spine do not form properly. This genetic condition can lead to a range of physical and cognitive challenges for individuals affected by it.
I also learnt that it can manifest in different ways, with some people experiencing mild symptoms while others may have more severe impairments. It also requires ongoing medical care and management, which I found to be a particularly fascinating aspect to explore. Additionally, I gained valuable insights into the psychosocial impacts of Spina Bifida, including difficulties with social development, independence and academic achievement. This assignment has been a truly enriching learning experience for me, and I feel better equipped to understand and discuss this important condition going forward.
