                                                              ePortfolio #1

Course: H362 – Health Care Law & Regulations (Fall 2024)

Outcome: Understand and analyze laws and regulations that impact health care services and providers

Mapped to PLO: Apply knowledge of health policy, ethics, and regulations to health care practice.

Mapped to PLUS: Critical Thinker – Evaluate information, make decisions, and solve problems.

Reflection:

In Health Care Law and Regulations, I learned how different laws and rules shape the way health care works in the United States. We covered topics like medical negligence, patient privacy, and contracts, which showed me how legal principles affect both patients and health care organizations. By looking at real cases and applying legal rules, I got better at connecting laws to real-world situations in health care. This supports the Health Sciences PLO of applying knowledge of health policy and regulations, because I now understand how following the law helps keep care ethical and effective. It also fits the PLUS profile of Critical Thinker, since I had to analyze information, look at different perspectives, and make thoughtful judgments.

Course: HLSC-H200: Survey of U.S. Health Care Systems (3 credits)

Outcome: Understand how the U.S. health care system is organized, financed, and delivered.

Mapped to PLO: Apply knowledge of health systems and policy to health care practice.

Mapped to PLUS: Critical Thinker – Evaluate information, make decisions, and solve problems.

Reflection:In H200, I learned about how the U.S. health care system works, from hospitals and insurance to government programs like Medicare and Medicaid. I also learned about some of the main challenges the system faces, like access to care, high costs, and differences in quality. Comparing the U.S. to other countries showed me that there isn’t one “perfect” system, but there are always things we can improve. This outcome connects to the Health Sciences Program Learning Objective because I can now see how policies and systems affect the way people get care. It also fits with the Critical Thinker profile because the course pushed me to look at complex information, think through different perspectives, and form my own opinions about how health care should improve.
